Review: Casino Royale chips and card decks

Poker chips from CartamundiThe acquisition of a worldwide licence to provide a range of James Bond products by Cartamundi in 2002 saw the launch of several successful products based on images from the first 19 films. The company, which is the worldwide market leader in the production of playing, is based in Turnhout in Belgium and provides high quality playing cards and poker chips for retail market, casinos and collectors.

After EON Productions announced that Bond 21 was to be Casino Royale it came as little surprise when they asked Cartamundi to design and produce the playing cards and poker chips to be used in the poker scenes in the film.

Cartamundi produced three different card decks and chips, including the scenes set in the Casino Royale in Montenegro, working closely with the film’s design department to decide on final look and style to fit in with the overall style of the film.

Cartamundi was also granted an additional licence to commercialise the playing cards and poker chips designed for the Montenegro scenes, including the Casino Royale poker sets.

The Casino Royale playing cards from Cartamundi are casino quality card decks available in red or black, while the poker chips weigh in at a hefty 14 oz and look and feel as solid as you would imagine. The chips are available in two Cartamundi poker sets, the first of which includes 2 decks of casino quality cards, 200 poker chips of various denominations and a dealer button, contained in a Casino Royale branded box. The second set is a travel set with one deck of cards and 150 chips in a zip fastening pouch. Both sets also include the rules for Texas Hold’em.

All the James Bond products from Cartamundi are of excellent standard and will make an excellent addition to your collection. In particular the card decks are low cost and therefore ideal for anyone working with a small budget, and although any of these products would make a great gift, the poker sets are ideal for this.
