Amy Pascal has admitted she is “most afraid of fucking it up” as she works on the next James Bond film, saying the series has been “done pretty damn well for many, many, many decades”.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Pascal addressed the pressures of taking on one of cinema’s most enduring franchises. She is producing Bond 26 alongside David Heyman, with Denis Villeneuve set to direct and Steven Knight writing the screenplay following Amazon’s takeover of creative control in 2025.

I’m most afraid of fucking it up, because it’s really easy to do,” Pascal said. “It’s been done pretty damn well for many, many, many decades.

Pascal indicated that her approach is rooted in understanding the character’s origins, saying:

You really get into the weeds of something and study it to understand what makes it great, and what Ian Fleming meant it to be.

Fleming published Casino Royale on 13th April 1953, launching a run of 12 novels and two short story collections that established the foundations of the character later adapted by Eon Productions and now Amazon MGM. Pascal also acknowledged Barbara Broccoli, saying she hopes to learn from her experience producing Bond films and noting she had been “lucky enough to be there for some of them”.

Broccoli and Michael G Wilson stepped back from creative involvement after Amazon agreed to take control of the franchise in February 2025, with the deal completed in March. As for the status of the new film, Pascal was clear:

We are really early on.

No release date has been announced for Bond 26 and despite regular tabloid updates proclaiming a rotating array of actors as the new James Bond, they don’t yet appear ready for that step. Villeneuve shot Dune 3 in the second half of 2025 and is currently working in post-production ahead of its planned December release. While it can be expected that he gradually turns his attention to 007, it’s clear that Bond’s return is firmly in development for now.

The message from one of the franchise’s new custodians is simple. The work has begun — and the stakes are understood.

I see she is a very “classy” woman.
No need for the tasteless profanity.
And she sure sounds confident, doesn’t she?
Perhaps it’s time for her to move on.

  • James Strickland says:

    I concur.
    James is the name.
