Sam Mendes says he returned to James Bond for SPECTRE because of the story, adding that the plot is driven by Bond. He also says that he wanted to develop the new characters he introduced in Skyfall – M, Q and Moneypenny.

 The official 007 Twitter account earlier tweeted the above photo from Rome, saying simply “Two supercars, one beautiful city”.  The last few days have seen the main unit shorting a car chase through the Eternal City, where the production is based until March.

Last night saw the Aston Martin DB10 in action on the streets of Rome, with roads used for filming closed to the public between 9 pm and 6 am this morning. The video above shows some of the preparations prior to filming commencing, plus a look at a DB10 with camera and lighting gear attached.

Filming of a high speed car chase through the streets of Rome was reportedly disrupted at the weekend thanks to Rome’s cobblestones and potholes. Speeds were limited to just 70 km/h despite the producers paying for the roads used in the shoot be repaired, resulting in less than satisfactory results for the filmmakers. Daniel Craig arrived by Range Rover for the photo call in Rome earlier today with an excited Italian media looking on, followed shortly after by Monica Bellucci. You can see of the pair posing for the press here.
