Sam Mendes looks set to return for Bond 24

Sam Mendes is likely to return to directing duties on Bond 24 if an article published by the Daily Mail is to be believed.

He is waiting to see a completed script before committing, which currently exists as two plot outlines by screenwriter John Logan. The only people to have seen this, says the article, are producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, Daniel Craig and a handful of top brass at Sony and MGM.

If things go according to plan pre-production could start towards the end of this year or early 2014, although that might be doubtful for Mendes as he opens King Lear at the National Theatre in January. The Mail doesn’t say how long his involvement with that will last though and I’ve not been able to find the details anywhere online.

What gives the article some credence, as noted by the HMSS Weblog, is that the article is by Baz Bamigboye, who made a string of announcements regarding Skyfall that turned out to be correct, so as far as the James Bond series is concerned he appears to be well connected inside.

Bamigboye also says that Bond 24 and 25 will not form part of a two story arc, something that was initially rumoured and then denied soon after Skyfall‘s premiere.
