Eon wants Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Bond 26

Baz Bamigboye reports Bond filmmakers courting Fleabag creator for Bond 26.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Baz Bamigboye yesterday reported that people involved in filming No Time to Die are “happier than I’ve known them in years” and puts it down to the involvement of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. As a result they want her back for Bond 26.

Earlier in the year Bamigboye reported that morale was low on the production and that behind the scenes was chaotic.

The actress and writer is best known for her work on Fleabag, for which she was recently awarded three Emmys. And earlier this week it was reported that she has signed an exclusive multi-million dollar deal with Amazon to produce television shows for their Prime video platform. Fleabag was a BBC/Amazon co-production.

Initially drafted onto No Time to Die reportedly to write dialogue for the female characters, her role is reported to have expanded to a more general writing role. It appears her influence has been so great that Barbara Broccoli wants her back on Bond 26, whenever that is filmed. And there is a good chance that the next Bond film will bring with it a new actor playing James Bond.

Given that her involvement with Amazon is said to be exclusive it remains to be seen whether she will have the time or contractual freedom to work on Bond 26. But we are probably some years from work starting on Bond 26 and the situation may have changed by then anyway.

As I understand it, although producers and Craig himself were euphoric to have Phoebe Waller-Wotsit on board for co-scripting ‘No Time To Die’, not one of her ideas ended up in the completed film.
So why are people falling over themselves to have her her involved in Bond 26? There must surely be more to it than her prediliction for pushing ‘female empowerment’?
    I’m clearly missing something.
