The studio has publicly acknowledged that casting discussions for Bond 26 are now underway.

Amazon MGM issued a statement on social media confirming that work has begun on finding the next actor to play James Bond:
The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.
The statement is significant because it goes further than previous public comments from Amazon MGM, which had acknowledged development work on Bond 26 without directly confirming that active casting discussions had started.
It also aligns with the broader timeline many industry observers have expected since Amazon MGM formally assumed creative control of the franchise earlier this year.
Since the agreement between Amazon MGM and Eon Productions was announced in February 2025, the project has gradually assembled its core creative team. Amy Pascal and David Heyman were later confirmed as producers, followed by Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as screenwriter.
However, despite constant tabloid speculation around actors linked to the role, Amazon MGM had largely avoided discussing casting publicly.
That changed slightly at CinemaCon in April 2026, when Amazon MGM’s head of film, Courtenay Valenti, acknowledged the project during the studio’s presentation in Las Vegas.
“Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect,” Valenti told exhibitors. “That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”
THE DOSSIER MONTHLY
Confirmed facts, structured analysis, and reasoned forecasting.
At the time, the wording appeared designed to manage expectations while signalling that development was continuing behind the scenes.
The latest statement now suggests the project has moved into a more practical phase, with the studio publicly acknowledging that the search for Daniel Craig’s successor is actively underway.
That does not necessarily mean a casting announcement is imminent.
Major franchise films often begin exploratory conversations and internal evaluations long before formal negotiations, screen tests or final shortlists emerge. Bond 26 also remains in development rather than full pre-production, with no confirmed shooting date or release date currently announced.
Even so, the statement is likely to intensify speculation around potential candidates in the coming months as Amazon MGM begins shaping the next era of the franchise.
The next Bond film will be the first developed entirely under Amazon MGM’s creative leadership following the end of the Broccoli family’s long-running control of the series.
Individual stories only tell you so much. To understand where Bond is actually heading, you need to see how it all fits together.
