How has fandom changed over the years?
It’s so secret that we neglect to mention the name of the event! Mark and Calvin recount their amazing day at Secret Cinema’s Casino Royale show (spoiler-free) and we ponder what other Bond films would make great interactive experiences. We also debate the current state of Bond fandom in 2019 and how things have changed over the past 20 years. At the end, discussion of the latest Bond 25 developments throw up some wild rumours that sound a little too familiar.

Great Podcasts you have had! An interesting topic for an upcoming one might be, “Is EON’s timing off?” What do I mean by this? It seems that they can’t seem to sit on a great idea and then use it when the pay off could be better. I know there are 1000’s of ideas and concepts that have been around with them that they have used after sitting on them for years, and sometimes decades but here a few lately that seem might be better played later on.
1) SkyFall – great movie for sure (Although it take a few viewings to appreciate it) but think if they had waited and had it been Daniel Craig’s swan song film, even more impactful! M dying and he as an actor leaving the role.
2) SPECTRE how much better would have it had been for them to wait and re-introduce this classic organization and villain (Blofeld) with the NEXT actor to play 007. Then they could have had that actor’s entire run be the developing arc of Bond and how Blofeld and SPECTRE have been playing him – ala FRWL only spread out over 3-5 films. It would have had none of the forced elements of the 2015 SPECTRE film and hopefully they would have removed the half brother story element too!
3) Bond 25 press conference in Jamaica. Would it not have been better to wait and use Ian Flemming’s Goldeneye retreat as the location for the press conference announcing the NEW actor to play Bond and his inaugural film? Maybe there are more of these but it seems like a good topic to discus….
