Following Variety’s report that Danny Boyle is near the top of the list of potential directors for Bond 25, Deadline Hollywood has added some spice to the mix. According to a post by Mike Fleming Jr yesterday:

Boyle had an idea for a very specific 007 movie, and he and his Trainspotting partner John Hodge have teamed up to work out the beats. Hodge is writing that version and if it all works out, that would be the 007 film that Boyle would helm.

The article, which was based on information provided by unnamed sources, goes on to say Hodge will finish his script in a couple of months. At that point Eon/MGM will either decide to run with Hodge’s script with Boyle as director, or continue with the Neal Purvis and Robert Wade screenplay and find someone else to direct.

Both Variety and Deadline Hollywood are well-placed to get such a scoop so it’s likely that there is at least some truth to the story. When and if it pans out is anyone’s guess though.
