Thomas Newman deserves to win an Oscar for his Skyfall score, according to Slate.
I’d argue that David Arnold is the sound of the modern Bond films and Newman was a mistake for Skyfall; just listen to the sweeping theme of Casino Royale, while Arnold’s score for Quantum of Solace is one of the few highlights of that film. It isn’t a terrible soundtrack, but apart from the obvious Bond cues, it just isn’t the sound of Bond for me.
