The July edition of The Journal, a monthly online magazine published by online clothing retailer Mr Porter, is entitled “The Bond Issue” and has several good articles about James Bond’s style. The first is written by Ian Fleming’s biographer Andrew Lycett, who starts his article on Ian Fleming by saying:
Mr Fleming created the phenomenon when he sat down in Goldeneye, his house in Jamaica, and penned the first James Bond novel, Casino Royale, in 1952. […] However nobody denies that 007 was given an incredible boost when he was taken up by Messrs Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, who produced Dr. No, the first Bond movie, 50 years ago in 1962. Would we still be celebrating the exploits of a British secret agent in quite the same way if these two producers had not taken him in hand, and, […] launched one of the most successful cinema franchises of all time?
In addition to Lycett’s article (after reading the articles I feel I should refer to him as ‘Mr Lycett’), there is “Killer Touches”, “50 Years of Bond”, including an interview with costume designer Lindy Hemming, “Bond Voyage”, covering six luxury holiday spots with a Bond flavour, and “How to Pull off Daring Stunts” by none other than Vic Armstrong.
