Syd Cain (1918-2011) [MI6]

Syd Cain, who worked on five of the James Bond films as Art Director and Production Designer, died yesterday at the age of 93. According to an obituary published by MI6:

Broccoli hand-picked their first Bond crew largely from his experience with Warwick Films, and selected Cain as his Art Director on “Dr. No”, where one of his most memorable contributions was the dragon tank on Crab Key island. Working under legendary production designer Ken Adam, the team created an unique look for the film which is still as stunning today as it was 50 years ago.

After Dr No Cain also worked on From Russia With Love, for which he designed the set for the chess match and Bond’s attache case; On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and  the Piz Gloria set; Live And Let Die, including the tricked out Rolex; and Goldeneye
