Showbiz 411: Sam Mendes has signed for Bond 24 & Bond 25

Sam Mendes has signed for Bond 24 and will most likely return for Bond 25 too, according to Showbiz 411. There may be something to this story as the site had Adele’s Skyfall lyrics weeks before anyone else according to our friends at MI6.

That means it is likely that Mendes will see Daniel Craig though to the end of his tenure as 007, and also perhaps means that while we will have at least a three year wait for Bond 24, Bond 25 could follow two years after. John Logan is signed to write both screenplays and so there needn’t be such a delay before commencing pre-production on Bond 25.

Thinking of timescales, Sam Mendes is currently involved in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was staging preview performances earlier this month. The musical premieres next month and runs until 30 November 2013.

After that Mendes will be staging King Lear at the Olivier Theatre between January and March 2014, after which (presumably) he will be available to start working on Bond 24.

If that gives him enough preparation time to begin shooting at the end of 2014 or early 2015 we can expect Bond 24 to be released in 2015. However, if he believes that like Skyfall Bond 24 needs to be in  pre-production for longer it could be pushed back to 2016.

This is excellent news! I don’t mind waiting a few more months, or a year, to have a quality director back.
