Sean Connery had been suffering from dementia widow reveals

Connery’s widow reveals in interview he was suffering from dementia.

Photos of Sean Connery taken in the last couple of years showed the actor had become quite frail. However, it is only after his widow, Micheline, spoke to The Mail on Sunday that it was revealed that the actor had been suffering from dementia:

“He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”

It’s a situation familiar with anyone who has known someone suffering from the disease.

Micheline was Connery’s second wife and had married him in 1975 after the height of Bondmania. Talking about the end of his life she said:

“It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.”

Dementia is one of the leading causes of disability in the elderly with one in ten suffering from it. It affects around fifty percent of people aged over 85.
