Sam Mendes has NOT turned down Bond 26

Dodgy journalism results in 2013 story being shared as current news.

It pains me to write this story as I absolutely shouldn’t have to. A news story originating in the Time of India (I won’t link as it will only encourage them) has it that Sam Mendes was offered the directing gig for Bond 26.

Unfortunately for the Times of India, and every website that blindly shared this “breaking news”, the quotes from Mendes date from 2013, after he initially turned down what would become SPECTRE. The website says that he had been made a generous offer but had decided against it. They even quote him:

Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.

Except the quote comes from a 2013 interview with Empire.

Quite how the Times of India could have failed to double check I don’t know. And as for all the websites sharing this “news” without cross-checking, I don’t know what to say. As far as I know, Sam Mendes isn’t even in the frame for Bond 26.

pea green with envy for your time off.
But for me the upcoming surgery – the fourth to fix old war wounds that try to quit as we age. Thanks to modern tech, I am over the moon happy with the repairs that have given me back full functionality. I am in trouble not selling art today but selling robotic surgery for its safety for any vulnerable. Less blood loss, and though my tummy looked like stonehenge right after the esophageal fix, the tiny incisions are nearly invisible today, 90 days later. WHAT A BOND ADVENTURE! I woke from it all the next morning singing “Morning had Broken” quietly to be sure the surgery did not impact my voice – praise again – all was well!
This next one will allowe me to drive and travel again – actually , not just virtually – for the first time in twenty years. I AM A MODERN LADY BUT MCP JAMES BOND HAS EVOLVED BEAUTIFULLY AND DURING MY IMMOBILITY, THE MOVIES REALLY HELPED IN REAL WAYS TO KEEP MY PASSION FOR LIFE GRAND AND NORMAL FULL OF GOOD WORK AND LOVE, AND A FEELING OF “YES _ WE CAN WIN THIS!”

Thank you David Leigh and all who bring the stories to us!
