Sam Mendes has reportedly ruled himself out of the running for the top job at the National Theatre, something that has been rumoured for a few months, saying that it would get in the way of his film career.
The current top dog at the National Theatre, Sir Nicholas Hytner, steps down in 2015 and clears the way for Mendes to return to the Bond series, which has recently been strongly signalled by a variety of sources.
