Ian Fleming Publications unveils Project X

Ian Fleming Publications announced today details of Project X according to The Globe And Mail, which until today had existed only as a countdown timer on the IFP website that expired at midnight.

“Project X” is the working title of a new James Bond continuation novel written by American author Jeffery Deaver, due to be published in May 28th 2011. Unlike Devil May Care, the continuation novel written by Sebastian Faulks to mark the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, Project X will be set in the present, as were Raymond Benson’s works.

Deaver first came to the attention of Ian Fleming Publications as a potential continuation author when he won the 2004 Ian Fleming Steel Dagger award for Garden of Beasts, acknowledging Fleming’s influence on his own work in his acceptance speech.

He has also been short-listed for a Crime Writers Association (CWA) Dagger award this year and has said that his 007 novel will retain “the persona of James Bond as Fleming created him and the unique tone the author brought to his books”, while also incorporating his own “literary trademarks: detailed research, fast pacing and surprise twists”.
