The UK edition of Esquire has an exclusive interview and photo shoot with Daniel Craig in the October 2015 issue of the magazine, available in shops now.
The interview is available to read online and was conducted back in July, shortly after the wrap party for SPECTRE., after which the actor spent three days doing the movie poster, round table interviews, short individual interviews – and this one.
The interviewer, Alex Bilmes, comments on how he has never seen Craig so relaxed, and plies him with beer and cigarettes when he complains he can no longer go out for a drink. And then he discusses SPECTRE.
Here are some of the main points concerning SPECTRE that come out of the interview:
- Following the unprecedented success of Skyfall, Craig says the entire team was daunted by making a follow up and to start with the was a huge amount of pressure on everyone involved but felt that he and Sam Mendes had started something on Skyfall that needed to be finished, although he was initially reluctant to use 007’s back story in SPECTRE.
- The actor say SPECTRE is classic Bond x 10 and Sam Mendes has to complete it by 7th September.
- At the moment he can’t conceive of making another Bond film and needs to get on with his life. Bear in mind he has finished a gruelling shoot starting in December and only finishing in July, and so he just needs a break.
- He also says he doesn’t think he’d like to spend too much time with James Bond, describing him as a lonely and sad figure, and believes his portrayal of 007 is less sexist and misogynistic than previously.
