Dune director to return James Bond to the big screen after previously passing on Bond 25.

Denis Villeneuve and Tanya Lapointe
Denis Villeneuve has officially been named director of the next James Bond film, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed on 25th June, marking a bold step with the storied spy franchise now under Amazon’s creative control.
Villeneuve, the Oscar‑nominated filmmaker behind the Dune, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049, spoke of his lifelong devotion to the character. He recalled watching Dr No with his father and described Bond as “sacred territory”. Also on board Bond 26 is Tanya Lapointe as executive producer, alongside producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers.
This isn’t Villeneuve’s first flirtation with Bond. He was among those considered to direct what eventually became No Time to Die, and he confirmed that he would have leapt at the chance—but the opportunity to direct the first Dune film took priority, leading him to step back from Bond.
Since then, Villeneuve has built an unparalleled reputation. Dune: Part Two grossed over $700 million and earned multiple Academy Award nods—his films often straddle both critical acclaim and blockbuster scale. Villeneuve is currently preparing to begin production on Dune Messiah this summer, which means that production on Bond is expected to start once that’s complete—most likely in 2026, pointing to a 2027 release.

We shall see.
It’s a whole new ballgame.
I’m not impressed with Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE 1&2 (David Lynch’s DUNE is still #1 with me) and BLADERUNNER 2049 was mediocre, at best.
That being said, hopefully Villeneuve will deliver the Bond movie that will help us forget the debacle that was NTTD.
Some movement is better than nothing..just stay true to the Bond theme..no sci-fi junk
Villaneuve’s films Prisoners and Sicario were both very well done. This is a positive development.
I’m going to be looking at Sicario soon as that sounds like the closest thing he’s done to Bond.
