While many stories in the Daily Mail later prove to be wildly inaccurate, Bamigboye does have a good history of Bond related scoops. Earlier this year he revealed Neal Purvis and Robert Wade had been signed as writers several months before it was confirmed by Eon Productions.

Villeneuve is best known for Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015) and Arrival (2016). The latter received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. The French Canadian was previously linked to Bond 25 in a Deadline Hollywood article that mentioned a shortlist of three.

Villeneuve’s latest project is the forthcoming Blade Runner 2049, and he was confirmed earlier this year to have signed for a new series based on Frank Herbert’s Dune novels. The director had long expressed a desire to film Dune but it is unclear at what stage that project is at and whether he would be available to shoot a Bond film.
