Cover Art for Vintage Classics Revealed

A number of covers from the forthcoming Vintage Classic release due in September have been previewed recently by Ian Fleming Publications. These editions will be available in worldwide except US and Canada, which will be covered by the recent agreement with Amazon.

The announcement also revealed that a number of authors have been lined up to pen the Vintage Classic introductions, including Giles Foden, Sam Bourne, Andrew Taylor, Tom Rob Smith, Kate Mosse and Len Deighton.

David Leigh founded The James Bond Dossier in 2002. A fan of 007 since the age of 8, he is also author of The Complete Guide to the Drinks of James Bond. You can order a copy here if you don't own it already.

Presumably these covers were designed by the same company that foisted the tasteless (and artless) logo for the 2012 London Olympics upon an undeserving British public? Ian Fleming was, reportedly, delighted by Richard Chopping’s superb artwork for the dustjackets accompanying the first hardback editions. Somehow I feel he might be ‘shaken’ but not ‘stirred’ by these Vintage Classic designs.

I have all of the original hardbacks of Jonathan Cape editions which includes the art of Richard Chopping. This new “vintage” effort pales into the mundane compared to the originals. I am a graphic designer/ illustrator with 39 years experince in Australian, UK and Germany (8yrs) and I know what I am talking about.
