Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean from Quantum of Solace

Omega continues its association with James Bond in Quantum of Solace in the shape of the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m Co-Axial Chronometer, model 2201.50.00.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

Pierce Brosnan was the first James Bond actor to sport the brand in Goldeneye, a product placement too far in the eyes of many Bond fans, who would prefer 007 to remain faithful to Rolex.

However, the new Planet Ocean model certainly has the the right credentials; it is waterproof to 600 metres – far beyond the normally recognised recreational diving limits of 40 metres – with a helium escape valve designed to allow helium to escape during decompression.

This is a watch designed for professional divers, but as Daniel Craig proves in Quantum of Solace, it looks good as a dress watch too.

A special limited edition of the watch is also available to collectors, with a black textured dial supposedly inspired by the grip of Bond’s Walther PPK.

While the face includes the Quantum of Solace logo, it is much more subtle than the red 007 logo on the second hand sported by previous models. The model number is 222.30.46.20.01.001 and once again the production run is limited to 5,007 pieces.

I am delighted with my planet ocean. Go for the one Bond wears in Quantum not the limited edition with the ridiculous Quantum Of Solace written on the face. Come to think of it the 007 on the back of the case may also blow your cover with the girlies. I did pick up a few scratches on the crystal fighting enemy agents but I have had the lens professionally buffed and although the coating is now removed it looks better than when new. This watch is far superior in every way to my Rolex Submariner with its cheap looking tinny clasp but of course the Sub will hold it’s price better.
