Daniel Craig’s schedule and Bond 25

Despite what you might have read elsewhere, Daniel Craig has not quit James Bond.

Bond 25

But that’s not to say he’ll definitely do Bond 25 either.

He has committed to a number of other projects though. So while he may currently be pondering his options – or simply waiting to see if the Bond 25 script is any good – the actor has plenty to keep him occupied.

Bill Koenig of The Spy Command outlined Craig’s upcoming projects here. So how could that affect the schedule of Bond 25 if he does decided to stick to return as Bond for one more outing?

Daniel Craig’s reported schedule

Lucky Logan

Daniel Craig is reported to be in negotiations for this Steven Soderbergh heist movie, which is due to start shooting in the autumn of 2016. Notably between Skyfall and SPECTRE Craig didn’t take on any other film role.

Assuming a six month shoot starting in October, the film would wrap in March 2017. According to Hollywood Reporter his will be a supporting role. He may therefore not be required for the entire shoot.

Othello

Craig is also due to play Iago in an off-Broadway production of Shakespeare’s play as part of the 2016/17 New York Theatre Workshop.

No firm dates have been announced, but based on the previous season the run would be roughly six weeks to eight weeks and start any time between November and May. That fits in with Lucky Logan well.

Purity

Craig is also confirmed for a 20-episode TV miniseries, Purity. Scheduled to be screened on Showtime in 2017 and 2018, Bill Koenig reckons it could take six months to shoot the 20 episodes. As well as one of the main roles, Craig will also be executive producer.

What does that mean for Bond 25?

Based on that schedule, Craig could be available for Bond 25 from 2018 if those three projects end up back-to-back.

Bond 25 could start shooting in January 2018 for release in October/November the same year. But consider these scenarios:

  • Craig wants a little more space between the three projects.
  • Purity starts shooting later than mid 2017.
  • Ten episodes of Purity are scheduled for 2017 and the remainder in 2018.
  • Craig co-produces Bond 25, as he did with SPECTRE, in which case he’ll need to be involved in pre-production.

In any of those cases it looks like Bond 25 won’t be with us until 2019.

That’s a long time to wait for the next film. But can not see anyone fill Craigs shoes really. Hope the next film is sooner.
