Young Bond to star in first full-cast audio drama adaptation

Charlie Higson’s SilverFin will launch a new Young Bond audio series in September 2026.

Ian Fleming Publications and Big Finish Productions have announced Young Bond, a new range of full-cast audio dramas bringing the teenage years of Ian Fleming’s secret agent to life in cinematic sound.

The series will begin in September 2026 with an adaptation of Charlie Higson’s SilverFin, the first Young Bond novel, originally published in 2005. Higson is involved as a consultant on the production.

The dramas will be released as digital download-to-own titles and collector’s edition CD box sets, available exclusively from bigfinish.com and ianflemingshop.com.

An eight-hour adaptation

SilverFin has been adapted by Barnaby Edwards, who also directs, into 16 half-hour episodes — an eight-hour production featuring a full cast, cinematic sound design and a new orchestral score by Hollywood composer Joe Kraemer.

Big Finish will soon begin casting the roles of James Bond and Wilder Lawless, with approaches invited from actors’ representatives. Details of the roles and the types of actors sought will be published at youngbondadventures.com.

Jason Haigh-Ellery, chairman of Big Finish Productions, described his early experience of seeing On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever at the cinema as the start of a lifelong connection with Bond. Fifty years later, he said he was “delighted and honoured” that Ian Fleming Publications had entrusted the company with the stories.

Charlie Higson said he was excited that his books would be given “fresh life” as fully dramatised audio adventures, adding that he hoped the series would introduce Bond to a new generation.

Simon Ward, publishing director at Ian Fleming Publications Ltd, said the adaptation of SilverFin was both a reimagining for established Bond fans and an entry point for newcomers to 007. Amanda Douglas, managing director, added that the move into multi-voice audio drama would give the next generation the chance to experience Young Bond in an immersive way, while inviting original readers to rediscover the stories.
