The Secret World of James Bond, promises to explore the real-life inspirations behind Ian Fleming’s legendary spy.

The Ian Fleming Foundation has revealed plans for a new podcast, The Secret World of James Bond, offering a fresh look at the inspirations and legacy of Ian Fleming’s renowned creation.

The series, hosted by John Cork, will delve into the real-world figures, events, and literary works that influenced the creation of James Bond. Cork, known for his extensive work on Bond film features and co-authoring several books on the franchise, is set to guide listeners through the fascinating connections between Fleming’s life and his fictional spy.

Though details are still emerging, the podcast aims to uncover the evolution of Fleming’s world and the cultural impact of Bond, accompanied by video content on YouTube and posts on Instagram to expand the experience. During an appearance on the Spyhards podcast, Cork offered a glimpse into the making of The Secret World of James Bond:

It is going to be looking at the secret origins and untold stories behind the original novels, some stuff about the films of course, some untold stories about the films, and I have just finished a six weeks around-the-world trip exploring some of those hidden locations from the world of James Bond.

Asked about trip highlights, he said:

One of the ones that stands out is going to the Seychelles, where the short story The Hildebrandt Rarity was set, interviewing the son of the treasure hunter that inspired Ian Fleming to first go to the Seychelles, snorkelling off the beach where James Bond snorkels at the beginning of the short story.

Cork also hinted at recent interactions with Eon Productions:

I hear a lot of news from Bond these days. Literally yesterday, I was talking to some folks at Eon Productions—my lips are sealed, I can say no more.

Set to debut in 2025, The Secret World of James Bond is part of the Ian Fleming Foundation’s ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate the Bond legacy.
