Michael Madsen, the actor who appeared as National Security Agency official Damian Falco in Die Another Day, has died at the age of 67. His death was confirmed as the result of cardiac arrest at his Malibu home on 3rd July 2025.
Madsen’s role in the 2002 Bond film placed him opposite Pierce Brosnan’s 007 and Judi Dench’s M at a time when the franchise reflected post-Cold War anxieties. As Falco, he played a senior US intelligence figure at odds with Bond’s methods and MI6’s judgement during a high-stakes operation involving North Korea.
Born in Chicago on 25th September 1957, Madsen came to acting after working a variety of jobs, including mechanic and gas-station attendant. He trained at the Steppenwolf Theatre and was mentored by John Malkovich before moving into film. His career was defined by memorable performances as violent or volatile figures, most famously as Mr Blonde in Reservoir Dogs (1992), where his portrayal of a sadistic criminal became one of cinema’s most chilling. Madsen also appeared in Donnie Brasco, Thelma & Louise, Kill Bill, Sin City and The Hateful Eight.
Away from the screen, Madsen published several volumes of poetry and was open about the challenges he faced in his personal life, including financial struggles and family tragedy. He is survived by his wife DeAnna, six children, his mother Elaine, and his sisters Cheryl and Virginia Madsen.
