Luxury publisher Assouline releases James Bond Cars

Assouline’s new release reveals how 007’s vehicles became stars of the series.

When Bond stepped into a Sunbeam Alpine in Dr No, it was just a car. But by Goldfinger, the DB5 had gadgets, guns and an ejector seat—and from that moment on, every vehicle in the series had the potential to steal the scene.

Released in time for Christmas, James Bond Cars is the third official Bond book from Assouline and tracks every car, boat, bike and jet from the films, starting in 1962 and ending with the bullet-riddled DB5 in No Time to Die. Written by long-time Bond effects chief Chris Corbould, it offers behind-the-scenes detail on the most daring stunts and the machines that made them possible.

Goldfinger, Sean Connery, 1964.

The Lotus that turned into a submarine, the AMC Hornet’s mid-air spiral jump, and the record-setting seven-roll crash of the Aston Martin DBS in Casino Royale are all here. So too are the two-wheeled tankers of Licence to Kill and the front-half taxi from A View to a Kill. Each sequence is unpacked with production insight and technical know-how.

Aston Martins get the spotlight, but there’s space for Ferraris, tuk-tuks, jet boats and jet packs too. This is a full-spectrum tribute to the vehicles that helped define Bond’s world.

The deluxe edition 007 Trilogy comes in a brushed aluminium slipcase, bundled with James Bond Style and James Bond Destinations.
