John Barry’s Bond scores for The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker get remastered 2-CD releases

To mark major anniversaries of The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker, La-La Land Records unveils limited-edition 2-CD sets featuring remastered and expanded versions of John Barry’s iconic scores.

La-La Land Records has announced two special releases to honour milestone anniversaries for James Bond classics. The Man with the Golden Gun celebrates its 50th anniversary with a remastered and expanded score, while Moonraker marks its 45th anniversary with a similar treatment. Both albums are limited to 5,000 units and showcase the genius of composer John Barry, who defined the sound of 007 across the franchise.

The Man with the Golden Gun: 50 years of intrigue

Released in 1974, The Man with the Golden Gun is famed for its suspenseful and exotic score, composed by Barry with a title track performed by Lulu. The newly expanded 2-CD set features the complete film score in chronological order, including previously unreleased tracks, source music recorded for the film, and a demo version of the title song with lyrics by Don Black. The second disc includes the original 1974 album presentation, remastered for superior sound quality.

Produced by Neil S Bulk, the music was remixed by Chris Malone from high-resolution digital transfers of original 2-inch tapes provided by MGM. Film music expert Jon Burlingame contributes new liner notes, with design by Dan Goldwasser.

Moonraker: 45 years in orbit

The 1979 film Moonraker took James Bond into space, and Barry’s lush, romantic score remains a highlight. This expanded set includes the complete score, newly remastered, and previously unreleased tracks. Alternate versions of the title song—originally featuring vocals and lyrics by Paul Williams—offer fans a glimpse into its evolution.

Mike Matessino handled the remixing, again using high-resolution transfers from MGM’s archives. Jon Burlingame provides fresh insights in the accompanying booklet.

Availability and pricing

Both albums are priced at $31.98 each and are exclusively available through La-La Land Records and the 007 Store for the first 90 days of release and orders begin shipping on 10th December 2024. Bond fans and soundtrack enthusiasts have a unique chance to experience these timeless scores in enhanced audio quality, celebrating two significant chapters in the franchise’s legacy.
