IO Interactive delays 007: First Light release to May 2026

The next major James Bond video game will arrive two months later than planned.

IO Interactive has delayed the release of its upcoming James Bond video game, 007: First Light, pushing the launch from 27th March 2026 to 27th May 2026.

In a statement shared on social media, the Danish developer said the game is fully playable from beginning to end, but that the additional time will be used to further polish and refine the final experience ahead of release. IO added that the decision was made to ensure the strongest possible version of the game reaches players.

007: First Light was revealed earlier in 2025 and is set to tell an original story focusing on Bond’s early career at MI6. The game stars Patrick Gibson as 007, with additional performances from Lennie James as Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny and Noémie Nakai as Ms Roth.

The title was shown publicly during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation in September 2025. It marks the first original James Bond video game from IO Interactive, best known for the Hitman series.

Pre-orders for the standard edition are priced at $69.99, with early purchasers receiving an automatic upgrade to the deluxe edition, including cosmetic items and early digital access. IO is also offering a special edition priced at $299.99, which includes physical collectibles such as a Golden Gun figurine and steelbook case.

The revised release date of 27th May 2026 had previously been associated with the planned launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, before that title was delayed.
