Amazon CEO confirms no Bond 26 plan yet, while reports emerge of Nolan’s rejected pitch

Amazon MGM Studios takes a measured approach to Bond 26, while Christopher Nolan’s bid to direct collapses over final cut control.

Bond 26

With Amazon MGM Studios soon in creative control of the James Bond franchise, speculation about the next 007 adventure has been running rampant. However, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has poured cold water on any expectations of an imminent announcement.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Jassy made it clear that Bond 26 is still in its earliest stages. “We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be. Nobody’s written the story yet,” he admitted. While Amazon is clearly eager to capitalize on its soon to be creative control, Jassy stressed that the studio intends to take its time. “We recognize how iconic Bond is,” he continued. “We want to develop it thoughtfully over time.”

This careful approach extends to casting, too. When pressed on whether discussions had begun about the next James Bond, Jassy revealed that no decisions had been made—suggesting that fan debates over potential candidates like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and James Norton may continue for some time.

Christopher Nolan’s Bond ambitions hit a roadblock

Meanwhile, fresh reports have emerged regarding Christopher Nolan’s long-standing desire to direct a Bond film. The Oppenheimer director, a self-confessed Bond fan, had been in discussions with producer Barbara Broccoli about taking the helm of Bond 26. However, according to industry insiders, negotiations faltered over creative control.

Nolan, known for his meticulous approach and insistence on final cut privilege, was reportedly unwilling to make creative compromises. Broccoli, who has maintained a firm grip on the franchise since inheriting control from her father, Albert R Broccoli, was equally unwilling to relinquish authority. With neither side willing to budge, the talks collapsed.

This news will disappoint fans who had hoped for Nolan’s signature blend of practical effects, cerebral storytelling, and high-stakes espionage to reinvigorate the franchise. However, given his past comments about the appeal of Bond, it may not be the last time his name is linked to the series.

As Amazon MGM Studios charts a new course for 007, the franchise stands at a crossroads. With no script, no director, and no Bond yet in place, it’s clear that Bond 26 is still some way off—but when it does arrive, it could mark one of the most significant reinventions in the series’ history.
