Premiere of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service [1969]

ohmss-posterThe premiere of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service took place at the Odeon Leicester Square on 18th December 1969 and went on release in the UK, USA and much of Europe the same day.

The film saw George Lazenby in his only appearance as 007 and after Sean Connery was a disappointment to the cinema going public at the time. While Lazenby’s lack of acting know how and experience is all too clear – he was a model, not an actor – the film has become popular with many fans.

While Lazenby’s performance lets the film down, it has a fantastic score by John Barry, which many consider to be the finest of the series, and the Alpine snow-scapes around Piz Gloria were made for James Bond.
