Goldfinger watch strap from Corvus

A while ago I saw on the Absolutely James Bond forum a project by Corvus Watches to produce a watch strap like the one worn by Sean Connery in Goldfinger.

What is interesting about the strap is that it was previously believed to be black and grey; however, when the Blu-Ray version was released it became clear that the straps in fact had three colours; dark blue, green and red. Anyway, I signed up to the mailing list to be kept informed of the project and once the order book opened up I bought two straps.

Aston Martin V8 Volante at Barcelona Classic Car Show

The Aston Martin V8 Volante from The Living Daylights was one of the big draws to the Barcelona Classic Car Show last weekend. Surprisingly, the car has a Barcelona registration plate, but it is the same car I’ve seen before, with modifications to take the Q supplied outriders welded underneath.

Ian Fleming: the final years

Following the poor reception of The Spy Who Loved Me, Fleming decided to visit Jamaica in July 1962, where he worked on the short story Octopussy. The story is set in Kitzbuhel and Jamaica, two places close to Fleming’s heart, and centres around a figure suffering the ill effects of a lifetime of smoking and drinking heavily who seems distinctly autobiographical.

According to an article on MI6 today, work has hardly started on Bond 23. Producer Michael G. Wilson spoke at the Bradford International Film Festival last week, in which he gave a masterclass on the making of the James Bond films. One of the things he discussed was the pace at which the films is made, which has both positive and negative consequences.

Big screen 007 marks Cubby Broccoli centenary

Cubby Broccoli (1909-1996) was the driving force behind bringing James Bond to the big screen. Born into an Italian-American family, Broccoli’s early career in Hollywood started as an assistant director on a Howard Hughes picture, The Outlaw, directed by Howard Hawkes. In 1952 Broccoli started his producing career when he came to England and launched Warwick Films with Irving Allen.

Ian Fleming: American success

Kevin McClory could see huge cinematic potential in James Bond and was eager for Ivar Bryce to finance a project to finally bring 007 to the big screen. He had just directed his first feature financed by Bryce, “The Boy And The Bridge” which was Britain’s official entry in the 1959 Venice Film Festival.
