Rumour: Daniel Craig “just about persuaded” to return in Bond 25

An article published by Page Six earlier today claims Barbara Broccoli has “just about persuaded Daniel Craig” to return for another James Bond movie.

Bond 25

Although the report does seem plausible it is not confirmed.

While Page Six may not prove to be reliable the article claims “multiple sources” have told them that Broccoli has made progress. She has “just about persuaded Daniel Craig to do one more Bond movie”. It doesn’t mention whether he might be tempted back after Bond 25 though.

It goes on to mention that she recently produced the off Broadway production of Othello. That starred Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo. The article then says an unnamed Hollywood source told them:

Daniel was very pleased with how ‘Othello’ went and the great reviews. Now Daniel’s talks with Barbara are going in the right direction. They have a script — screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing and they’ll go into production as soon as Daniel is ready to commit.

It also says Broccoli considers Tom Hiddleston “too smug” and “not tough enough” to consider as 007.

Key takeaways

  • It certainly seemed like Daniel Craig needed a break from Bond after the gruelling shoot for SPECTRE. Perhaps his experience was made worse because of his role as co-producer and he needs to back off a little in future.
  • Craig has also made it clear that he wanted to tackle more serious acting roles. Othello is certainly serious. A I’ve suggested previously, by producing Othello as a vehicle for Craig, Barbara Broccoli certainly had more ammunition in getting him to return.
  • Caveat emptor – none of this is confirmed. While it seems plausible it might all just be rumour.
