Javier Bardem offered role of villain in Bond 23

Following Dame Judi Dench’s confirmation that she would be reappearing in Bond 23, Spanish actor Javier Bardem has verified the rumours surrounding his possible involvement in the film.

In an interview with the LA Times he confirmed that he had been offered the role by Sam Mendes, although his involvement is dependent on the screenplay coming up to scratch, something the Bond fan community is also hoping for following the disappointing Quantum of Solace. The actor told the LA Times that he was a Bond fan, saying:

“When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I’d be in one of those movies?” and “they’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing.”
