Bond 24 cinematographer confirms return to film

Bond 24 cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema has recently confirmed that he will return to celluloid for Bond 24 after predecessor Roger Deakins elected to shoot Skyfall digitally.

Speaking to HitFix, van Hoytema’s most recent work can be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, also shot on film and in the interview he talks about film versus digital and while he says he loves working with film he also describes the debate about which medium is better as stupid.

Van Hoytema was also interviewed by Den of Geek, although in that he says he is unable to speak about Bond 24. However, he does go into more depth about shooting part of Interstellar in IMAX, which may or may not have a bearing on Bond24.

While Skyfall was not shot using IMAX cameras, as the decisison for an IMAX release was made after the film started shooting, it was later converted and shown in that format to great success, although I have been told personally by a reliable source that Roger Deakins was unhappy with the conversion.
