2003 was the 50th anniversary of the publication of Casino Royale, the first James Bond adventure.

The price of first edition Ian Fleming books has increased over the last few years due to collectors, and puts them beyond the price range of most people. However, the James Bond adventures have been republished many times over the years, and can be bought both new and second hand. James Bond as originally portrayed in Ian Fleming's books was much more ruthless, resourceful and hard edged than the character we find in the films.
